Squirrel “Sky” – From The Archives!

This is a video from 1995, co-directed and edited by me and my fabulous friend Vicky Peters, who also happens to be the Production Designer on my feature film Goldirocks!

This video always makes me cry. I think it’s the innocence of the kids, the adorable willingness of the guys, the absolutely beautiful song – and also remembering the dawn of my own filmmaking when I used to carry my gun-shaped Super 8 camera everywhere I went. Before digital cameras. *sniff*

The props are painted cardboard and the stock footage is from the Ontario Film Archives. We borrowed footage from the home movies of a wealthy Ontario family who were documenting an ‘aviation garden party’ in the 1920’s. The cliffs they fly over are part of the Niagara Escarpment.

What you don’t see is later when they land at their big estate there are flappers and suited up gentlemen with martini glasses greeting the plane on a sprawling lawn when they land.

Vicky and I made a few videos together, but this is the only one I can find so far. Stay tuned!
